Sibling relationships can be hard to navigate in general. Add fame, money and power to the mix and things can get super complicated, super fast.

Recently, Hilary Duff's emotional performance of a song from her new album luck...or something led fans to believe there was some truth to the rumors about a falling-out with sister Haylie. But the former Disney star is hardly the first pop star to publicly display their difficult family dynamics. Other stars such as Britney and Jamie Lynn Spears as well as Noel and Liam Gallagher and Julia and Eric Roberts have had to work out some of their family drama with the public watching.

Inciting Incident: Unclear, but the estrangement seems to have gone on for some time. Hilary hasn't been seen with Haylie publicly since 2019, reports the New York Post's Page Six.

Where they stand now: In an X video posted by a fan from her performance on Jan. 19, the Lizzie McGuire appeared emotional as she sang lyrics to "We Don't Talk," causing speculation it might be about her relationship with her sister.

"Don’t know when it happened / Not even sure what it was about/’Cause we come from the same home, same blood,” she sang.

“People ask me how you’re doing / I wanna say amazing, but the truth is that I don’t know / What I always end up saying is how …" she continued before belting the chorus, “We don’t talk, we don’t talk about it / We don’t talk about anything anymore."

Another verse included lyrics that alluded to a rivalry: "And if it’s ’cause you’re jealous / God knows I would sell it all, then break you off the bigger half."

Prior to the concert, Hilary hinted to Jake Shane that "family drama" would be among the topics addressed in the album. PEOPLE reached out to Hilary and Haylie for comment.

Brooklyn and Cruz Beckham

Inciting Incident: Brooklyn's feud with David and Victoria Beckham.

Rumors of a rift within the Beckham family began circling back in 2022, shortly after Brooklyn married Nicola Peltz Beckham. In recent months, as the family made several public appearances together, Brooklyn was noticeably absent.

On Dec. 20, 2025, followers noticed that David, Victoria and Brooklyn were no longer following each other on Instagram, though they were still following the rest of their children. The following day, Cruz shared a screenshot on his Instagram Stories of a Daily Mail article about his parents no longer following Brooklyn.

He denied the claims while revealing that he and his parents had unexpectedly been "blocked" on the social media platform.

"NOT TRUE,” Cruz wrote, clarifying, “My mum and dad would never unfollow their son … Let's get the facts right. They woke up blocked … as did I.”

Where they stand now: On Jan. 19, Brooklyn took to his Instagram and claimed his parents have been "trying endlessly to ruin" his marriage to Nicola in a series of bombshell Stories.

"I do not want to reconcile with my family," he wrote. "I'm not being controlled, I'm standing up for myself for the first time in my life."

Inciting Incident: Britney's 13-year conservatorship.

Over a decade after Britney Spears was placed in a conservatorship, the "Someday" singer went to court to end it. Her sister Jamie Lynn received criticism from fans who felt she wasn't supporting Britney publicly enough, to which she s hared an Instagram video explaining that she made “a very conscious” decision to “only participate” in Britney’s life as her sister.

“Since the day I was born, I've only loved, adored and supported my sister,” she said. “I mean this is my freaking big sister, before any of this bulls---. I don't care if she wants to run away to a rainforest and have zillion babies in the middle of nowhere, or if she wants to come back and dominate the world the way she has done so many times before. … I'm only her sister who's only concerned about her happiness."

On her own Instagram, Britney called out her family, specifically mentioning Jamie Lynn in the post: “I don't like that my sister showed up at an awards show and performed MY SONGS to remixes !!!!!” she wrote, referring to Jamie Lynn performing during a tribute to Britney at the 2017 Radio Disney Music Awards.

“My so-called support system hurt me deeply !!!! This conservatorship killed my dreams ... so all I have is hope and hope is the only thing in this world that is very hard to kill ... yet people still try !!!!”

Where they stand today: Britney has continued to be open about her mixed feelings toward her family members, including Jamie Lynn. It appears their relationship remains strained, as indicated by the pointed message the singer wrote over the Christmas holidays.

Inciting Incident: It's complicated, but got worse when Prince Harry met Meghan Markle.

By the time Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, stepped back from their senior royal duties in 2020, rumors of turmoil within the royal family were already swirling. In his book Spare, the Duke of Sussex confirmed their strained relationship, detailing one particular fight he had with his older brother, over Meghan.

"He grabbed me by the collar, ripping my necklace, and he knocked me to the floor. I landed on the dog's bowl, which cracked under my back, the pieces cutting into me. I lay there for a moment, dazed, then got to my feet and told him to get out," Harry wrote of the incident.

Where they stand now: Harry has said he'd like to put their differences behind them, but according to The Sunday Times, William is now indifferent to the situation. "What has struck me the most recently is that he just doesn’t mention it at all," a friend of William's told the outlet. "It used to be that the family stuff was taking up a lot of space in his head; it was a very close relationship, and he was very upset."

"But he’s not letting it get to him at all anymore. It is a change. It’s sad, but it’s a much healthier space for him to be at."

In a 2018 interview with Vanity Fair, Eric revealed his battle with drug addiction caused a rift within his family, leading to estrangement from Julia for many years.

"I wouldn't characterize it as a falling-out. I was crazy about my sisters. Loved them, adored them," he said. "They were precious to me, and we had times of great closeness. We all felt very protective of each other, but the hardest person to protect yourself from is yourself," he stated.

However, his substance abuse issues made him hard to be around, creating distance between him and his siblings. A 1993 custody battle over Emma Roberts would also pull them further apart, as Julia sided with Emma's mother, Kelly Cunningham.

"I was exhausting to be around: complainy, blamey, unable to enjoy enjoyment," the actor revealed. "Everyone in my world needed a break sometimes, and that must have included Julia."

Where they stand now: Though the two went years without talking, the birth of Julia's twins in 2004 brought them back together. "I was ushered into their room and was immediately awash in brotherly and uncle-y love," he told Vanity Fair.

"I imagine I will remain as Julia’s brother and Emma Roberts’ dad for the rest of my life,” he wrote in his book Runaway Train: or, The Story of My Life So Far. “I’d like to make good on that, to move aside proudly and with grace. That’s part of the reason for writing the book.”

According to Noel Gallagher, the root of his legendary beef with his brother goes back all the way to 1978, when Liam stole his teddy bear. On a more serious note, the older Gallagher revealed the reason Oasis broke up back in 2009 was because of Liam's designer clothing label, which he reportedly wanted to advertise on tour.

“I didn’t think it was right for him to be flogging his gear to our fans,” Noel told The Hollywood Reporter in July 2011. “There was a massive fight about that.” The two fought backstage at the Rock en Seine festival and Noel quit the band.

Where they stand now: After years apart, and some social media spats, the brothers finally reconciled and announced a tour in 2024. They would hit the road in 2025, playing a 41-date sold-out tour across Europe, America, Mexico, Australia and South America.

There was no major incident that caused a rift between Kelly Osbourne and her older sister Aimee, the two simply just don't gel.

"We don't talk," Kelly said while on the Armchair Expert podcast back in 2021. "We're just really different. She doesn't understand me and I don't understand her."

Aimee previously shared the same sentiment, telling The Independent back in 2015, "I wouldn't say there is an ease between us, but there is an acceptance. Do we socialize? No."

Where they stand now: Aimee was spotted with the rest of her family in a rare public appearance at Ozzy Osbourne's funeral last July.

Dennis Quaid doesn't often open up much about his personal life, which includes his relationship with brother Randy Quaid, from whom he is estranged.

Randy has encountered several legal troubles, including a 2015 arrest in Canada — which has caused a rift between him and Dennis.

Where they stand now: "Randy doesn’t like me to talk about what’s going on with him,“ Dennis told the PBD Podcast.

"I love my brother,” he previously told PEOPLE when asked about Randy’s legal troubles in 2011. “That’s all I can say. I love my brother and I miss my brother. That’s all I’m going to say."
