It's been a decade since David Bowie tragically died from liver cancer at the age of 69, and no one is feeling his absence more profoundly than his daughter, Lexi Jones.
This week, Jones, 25, the only child of Bowie and his wife, Iman, shared a candid social media post reflecting on what would have been her father’s 79th birthday, an occasion that falls just two days before the tenth anniversary of his death.
"Da big 79 today. Happy birthday pops, miss ya! 🩵" she captioned her post. And while fans and strangers from around the world raced to comment and liked the touching tribute, Jones noticed that not everyone showed up for her on the painful anniversary. Markedly absent were those closest to her, who didn't take the time or energy to reach out.
In a message shared to her Instagram stories that has since disappeared, Jones didn’t shy away from expressing disappointment over how the day unfolded.
Captioning a selfie, she wrote: "Thank you to all the people I don't know who wished me condolences, and f**k you to all of my friends who never texted me at all. I got 1 text! F**k all y'all."
Jones, who was only 15 years-old at the time of her father's death, received just one text message acknowledging the milestone, which was shocking considering her post garnered nearly 90,000 likes. Rather than keeping those feelings private, she chose to speak openly about them, calling out friends for failing to check in on a day that carried deep emotional weight.

Bowie, who died in 2016, remains one of the most influential artists in music history, and his birthday continues to be marked by fans around the world. For Jones, however, the day was deeply personal and her post offered a reminder that public legacy doesn’t always translate into private comfort.
As for Jones, she is well on her way to creating a legacy that's all her own. She is an accomplished singer and songwriter, and released her debut album, Xandri, in April 2025.
