**This article contains spoilers for *The Housemaid*.**

After a series of shocking and deadly twists and turns, *The Housemaid* ends with the promise of more.

To recap, after housemaid Millie (Sydney Sweeney) learns the hard way that her boss, Andrew (Brandon Sklenar), is actually a sadistic psychopath and his wife, Nina (Amanda Seyfried), secretly hired her in a desperate and elaborate scheme to escape his clutches, Millie kills him. Nina helps her get away with it and pays her a massive check for her troubles. Nina also lands her another interview to be a housemaid for a different family, before up and moving to California.

All seems normal with this new potential job until the woman conducting the interview subtly reveals bruises on her arms and, not so subtly, starts fingering her kitchen knives. The implication being that she'd like Millie to take care of more problems than just a dirty house.

All of that naturally leaves the story open to continue, should a sequel be greenlit. Then there's the fact that the film is based on Freida McFadden's 2022 novel of the same name, which is actually part of a series. In February 2023, McFadden published a sequel novel, *The Housemaid's Secret*, followed by a third book, *The Housemaid Is Watching*, in June 2024.

Ahead of the film's release, ** asked Seyfried and Sweeney whether they would be interested in doing more entries. "I think that we'll just have to wait and see," Sweeney teased. "I hope that the audience loves the movies just like we love the books, and we can continue to hopefully share that love within more of the films."

Even though her character, Nina, absconds to California at the end of this story, don't count Seyfried out for the future. "Oh yeah, absolutely [I'd do more films]," she said. "Listen, if it doesn't do well, you can call it off, but if it does, well, it's absolutely a franchise. I didn't sign on for anything but this one because my story ends, but they know that if they make another one, I'll be a part of it, because I had so much fun with Paul [Feig, director]."

At the film's premiere, Feig told *The Hollywood Reporter* that, since *The Housemaid* is the first novel in a trilogy, "if people show up and see it, I would love to see what Millie does next."
